For the thoughts that keep you up at night

when everyone else is asleep

  • Cosmic Café GPT

This is our little corner of the internet where you can use faith-rooted AI to ask for a prayer, explore a Bible passage, share what’s on your mind, ask questions, or quiet your thoughts at the end of the day. Cosmic Café GPT is a pastoral resource—not a replacement for friends, pastors, counselors, or real human community, but a doorway toward reflection and encouragement.

It works through ChatGPT on your phone, tablet, or computer, so you’ll need to sign in to your ChatGPT account. Your conversations remain private to your account; Cosmic Café and Jan Armstrong do not have access to your personal chats.

PSA: If you are struggling with your mental health, feel unsafe, or are in crisis, please reach out to a real person—a trusted friend, pastor, counselor, doctor, or crisis service. AI can support reflection, but it should never replace human care when you need it most.

What is Cosmic Cafe GPT?

About Cosmic Café GPT

Cosmic Café began with a simple human problem: sometimes the hardest hours come when everyone else is asleep. Dr. Jan B. Armstrong created it as a free digital place to turn when grief, fear, loneliness, questions of faith, or tomorrow’s worries are keeping you awake. Jan brings an unusual combination of experience to the project: early work in aerospace engineering and guidance systems, more than fifty years of pastoral ministry, advanced theological training, and years of writing about love, grief, technology, leadership, and human presence. His work on Agapology: Love as an Operating System shapes the Café’s central idea—that love should be more than a feeling; it should guide how we think, respond, and care for one another.

How Cosmic Café GPT Works

For several years, Jan has shaped, tested, and refined Cosmic Café GPT to respond in a particular way. It is built with pastoral guidelines and guardrails designed to encourage warmth rather than judgment, reflection rather than dependence, and clarity rather than easy answers. The AI is instructed to listen for what a person is really asking, offer appropriate Scripture, prayer, reflection, or reading suggestions, and point people back toward real relationships when that is what they need most. It is meant to feel less like a search engine and more like a thoughtful conversation.

How to Use It

You do not need a perfect prompt. You can simply type: “I can’t sleep,” “write me a prayer,” “give me a Bible passage,” “I’m grieving,” “I feel lonely,” or “what should I read right now?” Cosmic Café can respond with a blessing, Scripture, a short reflection, a calming reading, or a book recommendation that fits the moment.

What It Draws From

Cosmic Café GPT draws from Scripture, Jan Armstrong’s books—including Agapology, Summa Agapology, The Fifth Gospel, Light-Tears, and Recognition Without Reciprocity—and trusted Christian thinkers such as C.S. Lewis, Dallas Willard, Eugene Peterson, N.T. Wright, Henri Nouwen, Bonhoeffer, Augustine, and Calvin. The goal is not to give you the final word, but to help you find a thoughtful next one.

Jan Armstrong’s Background

Before ministry, Jan worked in aerospace in the late 1960s on navigation and guidance systems connected to the Minuteman III program and the Apollo Lunar Module. That engineering background still shapes how he thinks about systems, structure, safeguards, and what happens when one part fails. He later spent more than fifty years in pastoral ministry, walking with people through faith, doubt, marriage, conflict, grief, hope, and loss. His own life as a widower also deepened the questions behind his writing about love and grief.

Agapology: Love as an Operating System

For Jan, Agapology is not just a theory. It is a way of asking whether love can actually bear weight in real life. As he writes, “I will love knowing it might cost everything and return nothing. Because that’s what love is.” Agapology defines strong love as love informed by reality, guided by wisdom, willing to risk, and empowered to act. That same philosophy helps shape the way Cosmic Café GPT is instructed to respond.

Why It Is Free

Cosmic Café GPT is free because Jan believes access to a little wisdom, comfort, prayer, and spiritual grounding should not depend on whether someone can afford another subscription. It is meant to be a resource and a doorway—not something designed to keep you endlessly online.

Privacy + AI PSA

Cosmic Café GPT works through ChatGPT on your phone, tablet, or computer, so you will need to sign in to your ChatGPT account. Cosmic Café and Jan Armstrong do not have access to your personal chats simply because you use the GPT. Use AI as a tool, not an authority, and turn to a real person when you need personal, pastoral, medical, or mental-health support.

Our Purpose

Cosmic Café GPT is designed to help you slow down, reflect, find language for what you are carrying, and take the next faithful or loving step. It is not a replacement for friends, pastors, counselors, or real human community. Peace within reach, at every hour.
